What are the unifying concepts of cultural anthropology?
Two of the unifying concepts of anthropology are holism and relativism. Holism means that the full reality is taken into consideration. Many scientific disciplines are inherently focussed on specific aspects of reality. Through holism anthropology focuses on the whole picture. The object of study and its context. Relativism means that cultural expressions are only valid in their cultural context and that er is no such thing as cultural superiority.
Other concepts that are generally used in anthropology include:
- Ethnography
- Emic and Etic
- Participant observation
- Triangularity
